Town Council Meeting
The meeting commenced with an acknowledgment of the unseated lands of the Migma, followed by the singing of O Canada. Key agenda items included the approval of the agenda and the approval of several past meeting minutes, specifically from April 5th, 2023, June 12th, 2025, October 9th, 2025, October 14th, 2025, and October 30th, 2025. A presentation was given by members of the Communities in Bloom committee regarding the town winning its international category, emphasizing that the award reflects the community's quality of life and pride, not just flowers. The council also announced their successful bid to host the national symposium in 2027. The public hearing addressed proposed amendments to land use bylaw and municipal planning strategy regarding 3 Commercial Street and 191 Main Street, which involved rezoning and inclusion in the central business district improvement area. These rezoning items were subsequently treated as four separate motions for final readings. Discussions also covered continuing the New Year's levy, with suggestions to promote food bank donations during the event, and passing a second reading to remove the $50 annual permit fee for open air burning permits. New business included a motion to send a letter of congratulations to Michael McDonald of East Link Community TV upon his retirement, recognizing his extensive contributions since 1988.
