The meeting focused on the town's License Plate Reader (LPR) camera system. The police department provided a detailed explanation of the system's transition to a new vendor, data encryption, security measures, and cost, arguing that the technology is a necessary tool for public safety. Residents voiced strong opposition to the program, expressing concerns about privacy, the routine surveillance of citizens not suspected of crimes, and the perceived lack of necessity given local crime statistics. Many citizens urged the council to terminate the LPR program entirely.
